[The Prince] The Prince under a glass slide, looking back with jade-colored shades

September 12, 2007

Once upon a time there was this prince. Well, he wasn’t really a prince by definition; he was neither of royal blood nor someone married to one. I just call him that because its easier to remember. And being called a prince brings about a certain impression - single, unattached, young, although The Prince feels unusually old for his age. So sue me.

Anyway. This prince of neither royal blood nor marriage is what people would call a wallflower. Or to be precise, a corner wallflower that carries a big-ass sharp bloody kitchen knife. He’s the type of wallflower that scurries to the corner when he gets in the room, settles there then slashes wildly at whoever that comes into the range of his knife, which he deems to be his personal space. When he’s not slashing he looks outward to the crowd with silent suspicious eyes and resumes his being a wallflower. He’s got this morose face that belies all the things that go through his mind; if other people were to see these thoughts, he’s be thrown in the loony bin wrapped in a straitjacket faster than you can shout ‘nutcase!’ and run away from him.

This prince isn’t really a bad person. It just so happens that he generally hates people, society norms and all the things that come with them. Because of that, he bumps with a lot of heads and steps on a lot of toes and ruffles a lot of feathers. Does it matter for him? Not really - the world can be a cruel place, and he has learned his lessons well. Too well, if you’re going to listen to some people. And those lessons, hard-earned and all, keep him alive and isolated from the stupidity of a lot of norms in society. Never mind that those lessons serve as the social equivalent of a deep-wide-with-crocodiles-in-it moat usually seen in fantasy medieval films.

Before anything else, he’s not exactly what people would call a non-conformist - he does not subscribe to the so-called non-conformist mold where one must be angsty as hell, mad at everything and everyone, wear black everything, ratty jeans and Chucks, mascara, the works. He’s a non-conformist in the sense that he doesn’t agree nor subscribe to many concepts regarded as the norm by society. He believes religion should not be shoved down one’s throat (or up one’s ass for that matter) and that religion is just something cooked up by mortals to control other mortals; he believes one should not go along with other people’s whims in the name of solidarity if one does not agree with it in the first place; those are just a few so-called non-conformist-slash-antisocial thoughts running around his head. The fact that he likes wearing black (because dark clothes make you look thinner) does not count. And he’s mad towards a lot of things, not to everything, mind you. So stop the generalizations.

    Enough of the damn prince.

A few things in the first few paragraphs were hard to understand, because they had the wrong object–okay I’m not making sense.

There are B-sides to every story

Truth be told, I've known for a few years already how big a mistake it was when I picked one course over the other when I qualified for both of them in a certain state university. Even now I kick myself in the nuts at least once everyday for that lousy call. And the fact that it's infeasible (and rather stupid) to back out now rubs more salt to the still-sore nuts. Salted eggs anyone?

Because of that, my Muse went on a no-shit, no-holds-barred, no-retreat-no-surrender strike. Creativity died; it even held a funeral for itself in disgust and flipped me the finger from its grave.

But things are making its way out of the crypt. Bits and pieces of plots have been visiting me during unlikely hours - while staring at lines of code, while taking a dump and freezing my butt off in the process, in my dreams. It seems the Muse is back, albeit begrudgingly. Coincidence? Maybe not.

That mandatory disclaimer on copyright

It's simple actually - I wrote the stuff here unless credited or attributed to others. Steal this shit and die. Plagiarize the posts here and you will suffer a slow, horrible death. You can, however, use the posts here in its unchanged form (as-is, where-is), either in excerpts or in its entirety, as long as you credit the author - i.e. me. Hot-linking is more than welcome - just put a link directing people here to make everybody happy.

I guess having your own account here is a lot better than fanfiction.net in many ways. :) Very creative writing style, I like it.

Vera:

arc:
